Graham Flaspoehler: Exchange Student to Germany

My nephew, Graham Flaspoehler, was the number one German student in South Carolina at the end of the 2007 school year, and was one of only 350 high school students in the entire US to be selected for a one year trip to study abroad in Germany, on a foreign exchange program sponsored jointly by the German Government and the US Congress. Graham is the son of my brother Steve Flaspoehler and Ann O'Halloran. While in Germany, Graham will be working on an ambassador project with other American students.  Here is the link to the program:

Graham has already spent most of the summer in Germany. His first trip was in May, at the end of the school year. Then, he left for Nuremberg on June 19, 2007, for another month of language study and summer fun. Once he returns home from that trip, to Columbia, SC, at the end of July, he will be in the States for only 2 days, barely long enough to get his clothes washed, repack his bags, and kiss mother Ann good-by. Then, he will head back to Germany for the upcoming school year.

Starting with the fall semester, Graham will be staying with the family of Ernst Benary in Hannoversch Münden, a beautiful and historical city in Lower Saxony. Located at the confluence of the Fulda and Werra rivers, which join to form of the river Weser, and with a history going back over 600 years, Hann. Münden is considered one of the most beautiful small cities in Germany.

Ernst Benary, the father of Graham's new German family, is the owner of the Benary Seed Growers company in Hann. Muenden. Bennary Semenzucht, as it is called in German, is the largest seed company in Germany, with international locations, including Santa Barbara, California and Joliet, IL. You can read more about Benary Seed Growers at the company website. (Isn't it wonderful - what you can learn on the internet, these days!)

Graham's mother, Ann O'Halloran and his sisters Andrea Owsley and Ellen Yingling are EXTREMELY proud of Graham and all of his accomplishments.  "He is a wonderful brother and a great uncle to my kids!" says Andrea, the younger of his two sisters.

Please keep Graham in your thoughts and send him your prayers for a safe trip.
