No trip to Salt Lake City is complete without a visit to
Temple Square, the Vatican of the Mormon Church. I was able to spend
some time there on Friday night, including a 30 minute guided tour led
by some extremely personable missionary young ladies from New Zealand
and California. Temple Square is open from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM.

After my tour of Temple Square, and a quick fast food
dinner in the shopping mall across the street, I attended a concert by
the Utah Symphony Orchestra in Abravanel Hall, on the SW corner of
Temple Square. Maurice Abravanel was a famous conductor of the Utah Symphony
Orchestra.
The hall is beautiful, furnished in rich warm yellow oak
with bright crystal chandeliers. The orchestra's performance of
Berlioz's Harold in Italy with viola soloist Paul Neubauer and
led by USO resident conductor Pavel Kogan was magnificent. I was
enchanted with the rich clear sound of the performance hall, a great
contrast to the warm, reverberant sound of the Meyerson Symphony Center
here in Dallas, where I live.
