The Opera Unveiled books, along
with telling the stories of the operas, include details of their sources,
the lives of the composers and librettists, and above all, provide a sense
of the political, philosophical, sociological, geographical and historical
state of affairs at the time the operas were written. The operas are
described conversationally, and the books are an ideal way either to
prepare for going to the opera, or to further explore the work after
