SUMMARY

A knowledgeable data processing professional with a wide range of experience in mainframe and PC environments. During my career, I have worked as both a data processing consultant for major corporations in the food, retail, telecomm and chemical industries, and as a full time employee at companies in the utility, insurance, and retail industries. I. Contract Programming Positions 1995 – Present

For New Data Strategies at Neiman Marcus, Dallas, TX

Programmer/Analyst: Designed, coded, and tested an enhancement to the existing Replenishment System to automatically calculate Min/Max ranges of staple inventory and display results online for user review. Using specifications provided by the user, devised a method to extract inventory information from system VSAM files and IMS databases, populate a new Model Review VSAM file, and present Model Review Data online via CICS to be accepted or rejected by the user. Final system consisted of four new COBOL II batch programs, two new CICS programs and maps, and changes to existing maps and screens.

For SAGE TELECOM, Allen, TX

As an independent contractor: Designed queries for Accounting Department using MS-Access. Used Fujitsu PC COBOL and Power COBOL to design a process to convert order data from files transmitted by SW Bell into records to load into MS SQL Server 7.0 database. Converted Customer Invoice Transaction System written with MS Access macros to PC COBOL programs to be scheduled on weekly basis. Wrote reports and forms using MS Access and InfoMaker 7.0.

For Cotelligent, Inc., at J.C. PENNEY, INC., Dallas, TX

Programmer/Analyst: Designed and implemented audit reports written in COBOL and used to validate conversion of legacy payroll data to new PeopleSoft system. Responsible for the JC Penney corporate-wide W-2 System for tax year 1998. Redesigned, implemented, and documented COBOL programs and batch JCL in W-2C system for corrected tax returns. Developed COBOL programs to convert 270,000 Payroll History records from VM system to new PeopleSoft table. Upgraded, documented, and unit tested Salesman Incentive and Commissions (SMIC) system written in COBOL for Y2K compliance as "due diligence" for possible future audit.

For Technical Applications Group, Inc., at OCCIDENTAL CHEMICAL, INC., Dallas, TX

Programmer/Analyst: Supported payroll and human resource applications for the Payroll Department. Used COBOL, Easytrieve and DB2 to design and install a new system to track Savings and Investment Plan for Union Employees, including all data transfer via phone link to and from Oxy-Chem and Hewitt and Associates in Chicago. Updated MS-Access database supporting the United Way drive, and uploaded data to the mainframe programs written in Easytrieve to print pledge cards, and apply payroll deduction amounts at the end of the plan drive. Coordinated and implemented Y2K compliance changes to legacy payroll system written in Easytrieve to assure compatibility with main payroll system in Los Angeles. Acted as backup system support of the Gentran EDI system, and contacted carriers doing business with Oxy-Chem in an effort to set them up as new trading partners.

For INNOVA Solutions, Inc., at FRITO-LAY, INC., Plano, TX

Programmer/Analyst: Installed Dun and Bradstreet General Ledger for Millennium, Version 3.31 written in COBOL/CICS with DB2 database, for evaluation as a replacement for GL:M 2.21. Provided baseline support on the IMS/COBOL version of GL:M 2.21, becoming primary support analyst for the package after eight months. Fully responsible for General Ledger year-end close for fiscal year 1996, including documentation of processing flow. Developed COBOL programs to convert 1000 Pepsi Foods, International, general ledger master file records into IMS database in Frito-Lay GL:M system. Developed COBOL programs to translate EDI transactions into format for input into IMS version of AP:Millennium system, reported on incoming feed, and updated DB2 tables with EDI data. Created and implemented a Lotus NOTES database of the Frito-Lay Chart of Accounts, replacing a printed book, and trained Accounting Department in methods to update and use Lotus NOTES.

 

II. Web Development Activities 1996 – Present

As a freelance web developer, designed, created and published websites for a wide variety of clients. As a contractor, performed Webmaster duties for United Way of Metropolitan Dallas. An experienced HTML programmer who can create and maintain graphics using Adobe Photoshop, as well as include JAVA Scripts in web pages. Clients receive full service, including domain registration, establishing ISP hosting, e-mail forwarding to designated company contacts, and registering client sites with major search engines.

Work directly from existing promotional materials provided by clients to create their web site, or can design from scratch using MS FrontPage 2000 templates, working with documents, memos, photos and forms provided by the client to develop a distinctive web site suitable for their firm.

Created and maintain an original informational website for the American Association of Amateur Astronomers to provide a content-rich environment as a service to its membership. Installed shopping cart provided by on-line e-commerce retailer CCNow, allowing Internet credit card payment for membership fees and services, as well as online shopping.

 

III. Full-Time Programming Positions 1980 - 1995

Central and South West Services, Inc., Dallas, TX 1987 – 1995

Lead Programmer Analyst: Responsible for the installation and maintenance of IBM mainframe vendor software systems written in COBOL II/DB2/CICS, including Indus PASSPORT, a vendor proprietary inventory and purchasing system, Dun and Bradstreet GL Millennium 3.0 in both the VSAM and DB2 versions, and two new releases of the CSSII Shareholder Services System.

ZALE CORPORATION, Dallas, TX 1980 – 1987

Lead Programmer Analyst: Maintained COBOL programs and JCL batch systems in the areas of Payroll/Personnel, Profit Sharing, W2, FICA 941, and Insurance systems. Interacted with user departments to provide reports and respond to changes in processing requirements. Installed MSA/ALLTAX-2 tax calculation package in existing payroll system.
