Membership in the Upstate Mediation Network
Membership in the Upstate Mediation Network is open to anyone who supports
the goals of mediation. Our members include attorneys, clergy, educators, financial
consultants, mental health professionals, real estate agents, and insurance
professionals.
Some members of the Network are certified by the Board of Arbitrator and
Mediator Certification of the Supreme Court of the State of South Carolina as
a "certified civil court mediator", a "certified family court
mediator" and/or a "certified arbitrator". Such members must
meet certain professional and training requirements to be classified as a
"certified mediator" or a "certified arbitrator".
Only licensed attorneys and certain mental health professionals will be
appointed by the courts pursuant to court ordered mediations, but mediation
training is available to anyone, and parties may voluntarily select a mediator
who is neither an attorney nor a mental health professional.
